A Trip to the Zoo

I think my dizziness of last week was not caused by an abundance of colour but, rather, the onset of the dreaded lurgie. I have been laid low for almost ten days and am thoroughly fed up with myself. However, before succumbing to my misery, John and I took Mum to the zoo. She had been hinting that she would like to go ever since she came to live in Perth. I think I was secretly hoping that another family member would offer to take her but, as that didn't seem to be happening, I decided it was time to do something about it. The weather was perfect and so off we went. I have only now begun to feel like downloading the photos I took and when I did so I was struck by how many rear ends of animals I had captured.

Then, at last, someone (can you refer to an animal as someone?) agreed to look at us.
We could have watched this mother and baby orangutang for hours. The obvious mother/baby bond between them was absolutely beautiful and so like the human bond between mothers and their babies that it was uncanny. Wouldn't it be fun to be able to swing on a rope while cuddling your baby.
I am pleased to say that my mother (87) managed to walk the length and breadth of the zoo without missing a beat and, while we do not swing on ropes together, we still have a very close bond.

You are so funny! I believe Melbourne's zoo is a wonderful sight too, these days with the gardens and lack of formal enclosures. Don't thin Winter would be a great time to visit though as most sensible animals would be curled up and asleep! What a good idea!!
