A flower's journey

By anyone's standards, you would have to say that the flora in this country is incredible.

Just look what I saw yesterday in the garden of a friend where we had lunch.

The flower begins as a gumnut.



The nut develops and ripens



and an incredible flower bursts open.



It then withers, dies and becomes a hard seed case.



No wonder Joseph Banks got so excited when he landed on our shores in 1770 and was faced with so many new and beautiful plants.
